TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Secretary of State Kris Kobach is preparing to discuss legal issues surrounding redistricting before a Kansas Senate debate on a proposal for redrawing the chamber's 40 districts.
Kobach is the state's chief elections officer and a former law professor.
Kobach announced his Wednesday morning news conference on Tuesday, several hours before a meeting of Senate Republicans broke down amid disagreements on a proposed map favored by GOP moderates.
The dispute forced postponement of a planned debate Tuesday night.
The GOP impasse threatens to delay the state's Aug. 7 primary election. Lawmakers must adjust political boundaries to account for changes in population over the past decade.
