Kids Hit The Mats For State Tournament

TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)--A tournament of a different kind took center stage in the capital city Saturday.

More than 1,400 kids swarmed the Kansas Expocentre to hit the mats in the 2012 USA Wrestling Kansas Kids State Championship.

Competitors are divided by age, weight and district.

The wrestlers showed their grit in sub-district and district to make it all the way to state.

Dane Edwards came all the way from Dodge City to compete Edwards been competing for 11 years and he comes from a wrestling family.

His father and older brother both wrestled.

At the end of the match, these wrestlers are just looking for one thing.

Participants have to win four matches to be crowned champion. The finals will take place tomorrow.
