Kansas National Guard Members, Black Hawk Head To Colorado To Fight Wildfire

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Members of the Kansas National Guard are taking a Black Hawk helicopter to Colorado to help fight the quickly growing wildfire.

The High Park fire, just outside Fort Collins, has already destroyed more than 100 structures, killed one person, and is only 5% contained.

Nine soldiers from Topeka and Salina of the 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation and Company, and 2nd Battalion Aviation Regiment departed today at noon.

The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter comes with a bucket that can scoop up to 660 gallons of water to dump on the flames.

The soldiers may be in Colorado for up to 15 days.
