TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A former Navy lawyer has been disbarred by the Kansas Supreme Court.
Matthew Diaz was convicted during a court martial in 2007 for mailing secret information about Guantanamo Bay detainees.
The Kansas court justices issued their ruling today and rejected Diaz' request to have his license reinstaed, so he could practice law in New York.
Recommendations by the Office of Judicial Administration wanted the justices to suspend his law license for three years starting in 2008.
With that recommendation Diaz would have made him eligible to be reinstated immediately.
Currently, Diaz is living in New York. He earned his law degree from Washburn University in 1994.
