TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) The state's Securities Commissioner says he's leaving to pursue opportunities in the private sector.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, Gov. Sam Brownback announced the resignation of Aaron Jack, effective immediately.

“On behalf of Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer, I want to thank Commissioner Jack for his service to our administration and the citizens of Kansas. The Securities Office has made great strides during the last two years,”
Brownback said.

Jack served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 2009 until his appointment as commissioner in 2011. Before that, he was president of Wichita-based Heritage Consulting.

“I have greatly appreciated the chance to serve on behalf of my fellow Kansans, but I have opportunities in the private sector that I intend to pursue,” Jack said. “It has been a privilege to serve in the Governor’s administration.”

Jack has a web site up, www.jackforkansas.com, where he's touting a campaign for Kansas Insurance Commissioner. He'd challenge fellow Republican, incumbent Sandy Praeger.

Brownback appointed staff attorney Josh Ney as interim commissioner. Ney joined the office in 2011, from his prior post as assistant county attorney in the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office. Ney will serve until Brownback appoints a permanent commissioner, who will need to be confirmed by the Senate.
