TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Friends, family and fellow airmen filled Nickell Armory on 2722 SW Topeka Blvd Saturday afternoon to witness a colonel's promotion.
The Kansas National Guard promoted Colonel Scott Dold in a heartfelt ceremony to brigadier general. Dold currently serves as the Guard's chief of staff.
The newly minted brigadier general got "pinned" as they say by his wife Jean, his two daughters Kennedy and Crosby.
He also reserved special honors for his mother and brother.
"My brother retired from the Navy and then joined the Colorado Guard. A few years ago we lost him. He was killed in a motorcycle accident," Dold said. "Today is his birthday, so I delayed the promotion ceremony so that my date of rank would be on my brother's birthday. Plus, it made my mom cry," he smiled.
Dold also credited the sacrifice and service of rank and file soldiers and airmen for his achievements today and thanked them for their service.
