TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Kansas Lottery is accustomed to throwing parties for people who win its games, but Tuesday's celebration was a bit different.

The Kansas Lottery blew up balloons and served up cake to mark its 25th birthday.

The first Kansas Lottery ticket was sold November 12, 1987. Sales from the first instant game, called "Up and Away," came to $7 million in the first week.

New mascots Powerball and Megaball joined players, former employees and the public for an open house celebration. Attendees also had the opportunity to spin the prize wheel for free lottery merchandise.
