TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The number of Kansans with conceal and carry permits is growing.

Attorney General Derek Schmidt says more than 3,000 Kansans applied for concealed carry permits during the month of April.

The number is down slightly from the record set in March, but it's still the third-highest month since the program began in 2007.

Schmidt says most applications are being processed within the required 90 days, except for those needing additional information.

A complaint was recently filed over delays to deal with a sharp increase in applications since last fall. The office has hired additional staff and temporarily reassigned workers.

The Kansas Legislature is considering a request to hire up to three additional licensing personnel.
