KANSAS CITY, Mo--Five northeast Kansas companies made the Kansas City Star's annual Top 40 in Kansas and Missouri.
The Star bases selections on revenues, earnings, stock, market value and changes from the previous year.
Westar Energy ranked 12th on the list. Capitol Federal was 33rd.
The other three are Manhattan's Landmark Bancorp, Atchison's MGP Ingredients and Abilene's Alco Stores.
Collective Brands dropped off the list.
The Star also ranked Chief Executive Officers. Westar's Mark Ruelle came in 19th, with a total compensation of almost $2.5 million. Capitol Federal's John Dicus ranked 22nd, with a total compensation of almost $1.8 million.
Westar had the largest profit growth of the five Northeast Kansas companies, up 20 percent and the company was 8th in market value at $3.6 billion.
