TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Douglas County drill exercise was delayed due to a real emergency; a lab on KU's west campus is re-open after an early morning evacuation.
The Lawrence Journal World reports fire crews were called to McCollum laboratories, at 21st and Iowa, around 8:00 a.m. on reports of smoke in the area.
University of Kansas Spokesman Jack Martin says a belt in an air handing unit caused the smoke.
As a precaution, a hazardous materials team was called to the lab. The lab re-opened about an hour later.
