TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- You'll be seeing a lot more orange cones on the roads as the weather warms and state transportation officials remind you it's a sign to slow down!

Kansas Department of Transportation, Secretary Mike King joined employees and law enforcement in raising awareness of work zone safety with the "Go Orange" campaign.

The event included a display of 33 orange cones, one for each KDOT employee who's died on duty.

Several workers for KDOT contractors also have been killed in work zones.

KDOT is holding events across the state this week, driving home the importance of being aware when you see workers on Kansas roads.
