TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Kansas Department of Transportation is hosting an open house to solicit public input on a plan to improve and extend the K-4/Oakland Expressway.

The event will be held Thursday, August 2, from 5-7 p.m. at Seaman High School on 4850 NW Rochester Road, in the commons area.

This is a open-house style meeting, so no formal presentations are given. Instead KDOT staff and consultants will answer questions and take suggestions on the interim plan.

The plan includes an addition of a new two-lane roadway from US-24 to Northeast 46th Street, new ramps from northbound and southbound K-4 to westbound US-24 and from eastbound US-24 to northbound K-4; and the addition of a diamond interchange at Northeast 46th Street.

"This design change would be an interim practical improvement until funds are available to construct the entire four-lane roadway and remove the existing itnerchange at old K-4 and US-24. Currently, there is no funding available for final design or construction for these proposed interim improvements," according to a statement from KDOT.
