TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - State health officials are taking to Twitter to get Kansans prepared for flu season.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will host a live chat on the social media site from 2 to 3 pm Friday, Sept. 30. People are encouraged to log on to www.twitter.com, follow @KDHE and use the hashtag #KSflu to participate. People will be able to ask questions about flu vaccines, prevention methods and symptoms.

“Fall is here, school is back in session, and once again it’s time to prepare for flu season,” KDHE Secretary Dr. Robert Moser said. “Flu season peaks in the fall and winter, however reducing and eliminating the spread of infectious diseases is a year-round concern. Keeping Kansans informed through all channels of communication is key during flu season, and I hope Kansans are able to participate in the live Twitter chat.”

Twitter accounts are free to set up and use. People should include the hashtag #KSflu in their question or comment for it to be addressed. Also, search the hashtag to follow the conversation. On Twitter, questions or comments must be 140 characters or less.
