KDHE Seeks Comment On Emporia Site Cleanup

(WIBW) - State health officials want feedback on a plan to address contamination at a former manufactured gas plant site in Emporia.

The site at 2nd and Mechanic dates back to 1881 and is currently owned by ONEOK. Initial cleanup was done in 2004 but tests continue to show residual contamination of soil and groundwater.

A draft plan for cleaning it up is on file at Emporia's Public Library and on KDHE's website. The public can submit comments on it through October 22nd. They may be mailed to KDHE, Attention: John Cook, 1000 SW Jackson St., Suite 410, Topeka, KS 66612. They also may be emailed to johncook@kdheks.gov.
