OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) _ One man has drowned and a 6-year-old boy nearly drowned in separate swimming pools in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park.
The city's fire department said the man died Friday night in a pool at an Econolodge. Later in the evening, the boy was found at the bottom of an apartment pool and rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The fire department used the twin accidents to remind people to be extra cautious during the summer swimming season. Emergency officials urged people to swim with a buddy and reminded parents to keep a watchful eye on children at all times.
