KCDC Celebrates One Year Anniversary With Outdoor Exploration

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -The Kansas Children's Discovery Center turned one year old today and to celebrate, they officially opened the first phase of a $526,000 outdoor learning environment to the public.

Children were led on scavenger hunts around the new facility, tested out the rope challenge, looping trike path, and sensory gardens...

Seven year old and Topeka native, Isabelle Villines was eager to play outdoors and explore, saying, "You get to go into nature and see all these cool things, it"s really fun."

Executive Director Joanne Morrell believes new outdoor exploration items will be added in fall, including a treetop tree house and more to come as more funds are received.

In its first year, the discovery center welcomed more than 87,000 visitors from every state except delaware and also nine foreign countries including Austrailia, England and South Korea.
