K-State Student Found Dead In Dorm

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Kansas State University is mourning the tragic death of sophomore English student Thomas McCord.

McCord, from Overland Park, was found dead inside his dorm room by his roommate and his roommate's girlfriend.

University staff and campus police responded to Marlatt Residence Hall around 2:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The death is not considered criminal in nature and university officials said it was not a suicide. Further circumstances are still unknown. The case is still under investigation. Officials said an autopsy will be conducted by the Riley County coroner.

Housing and dining staff are working with counseling services to help students and staff through the grieving process.

"Our thoughts are with Thomas' family and friends right now," said Pat Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students.

Marlatt Hall is a coed dorm, housing close to 600 students.

A representative with K-States' Community and Marketing Office was not aware of any scheduled vigils for McCord on campus.
