JEFFERSON COUNTY, Kan. -- On Monday, May 14, an asphalt crack seal repair project began on a 12.7-mile section of K-92 from K-4 east to US-59 in Jefferson County.

Workers will fill cracks with an asphalt-like sealer to protect the roadway pavement from damage caused by excessive moisture and debris. Work will take place daily during daylight hours, sunrise to sunset, Monday through Friday.

Beginning on Monday, May 14, eastbound and westbound K-92 traffic will be reduced to one lane for both directions along with intermittent closures of adjacent cross roads during the project work hours for crack sealing work. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via a pilot car and flagger operation. Drivers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum.

There will be a posted speed limit of 40 mph through the project work zone during working hours and an 11’ lane width restriction as well.
Canyon Construction is the primary contractor on this preservation project with a total contract cost of $56,878. The scheduled completion date for the entire project is mid- to late June 2012, weather permitting.

This project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010. Find out more about this and other T-WORKS projects at: http://kdotapp.ksdot.org/TWorks/.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
