GEARY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- An 85-year-old man has passed away from his injuries after a two-car accident in Junction City.

Geary County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to K-57 and Elmdale Road Thursday at 4:30 PM.

Officials say Ralph Martin Jr., 85, from Junction City, was behind the wheel of his Dodge caravan and appears to have failed to yield the right of way to a 2012 Mazda 5 driven by 22-year-old Stephanie Alvarez, also of Junction City. According to accident reports, Martin was on Elmdale Road and pulled on to K-57 in front of Alvarez.

Geary County Undersheriff Tony Wolf says Martin was airlifted by Life Star helicopter to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. The Geary County Coroner was notified by hospital staff members Thursday night at 10:30 that Martin had succumbed to his injuries.

Alvarez and a passenger in her car, 25-year-old Brandon Rivers, were transported to Irwin Army Community Hospital at Fort Riley. Undersheriff Wolf says Alvarez did not have any apparent injuries but was experiencing neck, back and chest pain at the scene.
