TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Opening statements will begin Wednesday in a trial for one of nine people accused in a botched robbery that ended in murder last July.

Attorneys finished jury selection late today for 26-year old Anceo D. Stovall, charged with first-degree felony murder in the death of 40-year-old Natalie Gibson.

Nine women and six men have been selected for the jury and will be sworn in Wednesday. Three of them will serve as alternate jurors.

Throughout the second day of the selection process, defense attorney Jonathan Stovall took great pains to question the pool of prospective jurors on their impartiality, questioning them repeatedly on concepts from the presumption of innocence to burden of proof and even on race relations in the 1950s.

Gibson was killed and 41-year-old Lori Allison wounded when they were shot outside their home on SW Quinton in July of last year.

Nine people, including four juveniles were charged with felony murder and aggravated robbery for a string of holdups last summer -- one of which ended with the shooting death of Natalie Gibson in her driveway.

Stovall's trial will be followed by a series of trials of other defendants scheduled from July through October.

Three of them are cooperating with authorities and may testify as witnesses.
