Jury Finds Ray Miles Guilty On 4 Felonies 2 Misdemeanors

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-The jury arrived at the conclusion of guilty on six of the seven counts in this afternoon's trial stemming from Ray Miles' assault of four WIBW-TV employees on May 23rd.

Miles' defense attorney Wendell Betts begin his closing arguements saying, "Ray, like alot of us has his good and his bad days."

Early on, it seemed as if Ray Miles began the day in good spirits. He was seen smiling upon arrival, but later his mood changed and he grew dissatisfied.

So much so in fact that Miles called for a new trial, a new judge and wanted to fire his attorney Wendell Betts, all before excusing himself entirely.

At 1 P.M. jurors heard closing arguements from the state as well as Ray Miles' defense attorney, who claimed Mr. Miles was just trying to get the large group of people off of him in defense.

Prosecutor Veronica Desch rebuttled by saying Miles' intent to harm was in his actions of causing bodily harm to employees Roger Brokke, Greg Palmer, Cary Lanum and News Director Jon Janes.

Then the jury deliberated for nearly two and a half hours finding Ray Miles guilty of four felony battery charges and two misdemeanor charges of simple battery and criminal damage.

Sentencing in the ray miles case will be done on December 20th at 10 A.M.
