Junior Leader Readers Program Hits 10K Books

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A local group turned the page in its efforts to reach young readers.

The Junior Leader Readers Program celebrated giving its 10,000th book Tuesday. The program is coordinated by volunteers in the United Way of Greater Topeka's Young Leaders Society.

Each of the books was gifted as part of the program. For every book distributed, a volunteer within the program visits a classroom and reads the book to the students.

Tuesday's volunteer reader was Tara Yamka. Her husband, Dr. Ryan Yamka, personally purchased the first 100 books and gave them to students at Scott Magnet Elementary School in honor of his late father.
