JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Two Junction City men are being treated at Kansas hospitals for gunshot wounds following an early morning shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Lieutenant Jeff Childs with the Junction City Police Department says the shooting took place at the Green Park Apartments. He released the following information on Friday, April 6, 2012:
"On 04/06/2012, at approximately 0228 hours, members of the Junction City Police Department Patrol Division were dispatched to the area of 1450 North Calhoun Street, in reference to shots fired. As the units arrived on scene a subject identified as Michael A. Washington, B/M, 25 years of age, of Junction City arrived at the Geary Community Hospital emergency room suffering from two gunshot injuries. It was learned through the investigation that Mr. Washington was involved in the incident at 1450 North Calhoun Street.
Upon arrival of the units at 1450 North Calhoun Street, a second subject suffering from a gunshot injury was located. The second subject identified as Lemar T. Davis, B/M, 25 years of age of Junction City, was transported to the Geary Community Hospital emergency room by ambulance."
Washington was transferred to the KU Medical Center in Kansas City and Davis was transferred to the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for further medical treatment. Officials say both men were in serious but stable condition.
Lieutenant Childs said he could not yet comment on whether or not the men were shooting at each other or if they were shot by someone else. The case is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
The Green Park Apartments was also the scene of a fatal shooting last August when a 24-year-old mother was killed in front of her toddler inside one of the apartments.
Nathaniel Lewis Jr. has been arraigned in Geary County District Court and has pleaded not guilty to First Degree Murder and several other charges in connection with the death of Jennifer Pigg.
Lewis’ trial is set to start April 23, 2012. He is being held in the Geary County Detention Center on $1 million bond.
