JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Junction City police say a local massage spa has been shut down after an undercover investigation into reports of prostitution.
Officials say the Health Care Spa on Grant Avenue has been closed as a result of their probe. It’s located in a small shopping center near the intersection of Grant Avenue and Washington Street in Junction City and advertises “sports, Asian and stress” massages on its front windows.
Lieutenant Jeff Childs with the Junction City Police Department says the agency received several complaints that the business was conducting illegal sexual activities. Police received the first complaint in December and Childs says they received more information last week when another complaint came in.
Chief Tim Brown says the tipsters claimed that the spa workers were doing “sexual acts for hire.” He tells WIBW that when an undercover officer went into the business Thursday night, he was able to confirm the claims.
A female worker, Jin Mu Ying, 55, was arrested and charged with one count of prostitution. Lieutenant Childs says she was the only person working in the massage parlor at the time. Ying has since posted bond.
According to police, the owner of the shopping center has closed the Health Care Spa, which is operated by out-of-towners, because the arrest resulted in a violation of their lease.
Chief Brown says the building’s owner “padlocked” the spa and he doesn’t anticipate it ever reopening. Police do not plan to make any more arrests in the case, he added.
In a statement to 13 News, Brown said that he is grateful when the public passes tips on to his department and brings matters such as this to their attention so that officers can take action and in this case, make an arrest and in effect, shut the business down.
