Judge Dismisses Ledbetter Defamation Suit Against Miller

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Shawnee County judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit Monday against former county commissioner and current Municipal Court judge Vic Miller.

Joseph Ledbetter sued both Miller and Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten. He said they falsely stated in public meetings that he failed the bar exam three times. Ledbetter says he failed it once.

The case against Bunten was dropped in July.

Court records show that, in a hearing Monday, Judge Larry Hendricks granted a motion by Ledbetter's attorney to dismiss the case. Ledbetter filed the motion after Shawnee County Counselor Rich Eckert, representing Miller, asked Ledbetter to answer questions and provide documents related to the case as part of the discovery process.

The case was dismissed with prejudice so it cannot be refiled.
