TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A mother and son will stand trial together in the shooting death of the son's estranged wife.
Shawnee County District Court Judge Evelyn Wilson ruled Wednesday that Manuela Alcala and her son, Manuel Alcala, will be tried at the same time on first-degree murder and conspiracy charges.
The charges stem from the death of 34-year-old Ashley Alcala. She was found shot at her home in October 2012 and died later at a Topeka hospital.
The trial is scheduled to begin July 1st.
Two other men also face charges, including Manuel's brother, Gabino Alcala. Benjamin Anaya is the fourth suspect.
