Jackson Co. Chase Yields Stolen Vehicle

MAYETTA, Kan. (WIBW) - A chase in Jackson County Tuesday morning landed a California man behind bars.

Around 8:30 am, a Prairie Band Potawatomi Police officer tried to stop a 1999 Honda Civic for a registration violation. The driver took off, initiating a pursuit that ended when he abandoned the car near 158th and Q Road and ran.

Officers from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol established a perimeter and conducted a search. They located the suspect about an hour later, hiding nearby. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities say the car was reported stolen out of Topeka.

28-year-old Ben Bob Valdez, Junior of Bakersfield, California was booked on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and obstruction.
