(WIBW) - The State Fire Marshal will be in Abilene Friday, trying to find out what caused a fire that destroyed an historic landmark.
Fire tore through the historic Kirby House around 6 pm Wednesday. Much of the second and third floors were collapsed in charred ruins Thursday. The building is considered a total loss.
No one was inside when the fire broke out because the restaurant had closed early due to the impending storm.
The owners posted a message on their Facebook page Thursday night.
"Wednesday we suffered a devastating fire at our restaurant," the message says. "We have appreciated all the hard work and long hours that the firefighters and police have put in, for our sake. We would like to say thank you to every customer that came thru our doors. Also, thank you to everyone who has had wonderful comments and stories to share."
