FORT RILEY, Kan. (AP) _ Soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division's 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team begin returning to Fort Riley this weekend from Afghanistan.
Officials say the first group of about 150 soldiers will be reunited with family and friends at a welcome-home ceremony. The event is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Saturday at the northeast Kansas post.
Members of the brigade deployed to Afghanistan in April. Their mission focused on promoting the independent operation of the country's government, security forces and economy.
The rest of the soldiers from the combat team are scheduled to return to Fort Riley in the following weeks.
