Hydroelectric Power Plant Opens In Lawrence

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A new hydroelectric power plant in Lawrence is officially open.

The Bowersock Mills and Power Company cut the ribbon on their new plant near downtown Lawrence Friday.

Officials tell 13 News the plant was ready to operate in November, but didn't start producing enough electricity to run the turbines until this April.

All the power that the plant will produce will be sold to the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities.

This project has been in the works for a long time. President and CEO of Bowersock Sarah Hill-Nelson tells 13 News they found blueprints dated back to 1924!
