TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)—Outside of Kansas Neurological Institute more than 14,000 pounds of free food was available Thursday, August 4th. At least 400 families lined the streets around campus and waited in the rain to receive free food from Harvesters Mobile Food Pantry. Dozens of volunteers with Town and Country Christian Church make this event possible the first Thursday of every month.
"This is not only to serve the community, it also serves the Lord,” said volunteer Don Bush.
“You see all kinds of faces. Some faces are bright and smiley because we're here to help them. Others are down on their luck, and you try to cheer them up as they go through the line," said volunteer Don Smith.
Hundreds of families thanked Harvesters and the volunteers for the food they received.
