House Total Loss In Riley, Kan. Fire

RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) - A home is a total loss after a fire started in the attic around 10:15 Friday night.

Crews were still on scene around 11:15 a.m. Saturday at 7876 Powy's Lane, about seven miles west of the town of Riley.

Homeowner Mike Kalmer, his wife and two children were home when the fire started. They all got out safely.

The fire caused about $240,000 in damage. Crews are not sure what caused the fire.

12 trucks and 41 firefighters battled the blaze. Crews from Riley, Leonardville, Green, Kan. Randolph, University Park and Keets responded.

Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to other buildings in the area.
