TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka health care organization is suing the City of Topeka and Shawnee County to pay the medical bills of a convicted kidnapper.
Jesse Dimmick was fleeing a murder charge in Colorado in September 2009 when he took a Dover couple hostage in their home. An officer's weapon accidentally discharged while taking Dimmick into custody and Dimmick suffered a gunshot wound as a result.
A hospital spokesperson confirms Stormont-Vail HealthCare and Cotton-O'Neil Clinic are suing to recoup the Medicaid-rate costs of Dimmick's care. Court documents show that amount at more than $41,000. The actual bills topped $180,000.
Shawnee County Commissioners will acknowledge receiving notice of the lawsuit at their meeting Monday.
