TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW-TV) -- Three people were arrested following an incident where shots were fired at homes near Highland Park High Wednesday.
Shortly before 9:00 a.m., officers responded to the area of 21st and California on reports of shots fired.
Around 9:40 a.m. Topeka Police confirmed in a message posted on Twitter that a house in the 2100 block of SE California was hit. No injuries were reported at that time.
A neighbor told 13 News that a single resident, a woman, lives in the home struck by gunfire. The neighbor reported hearing 5 gunshots.
Around 10:15 a.m. police told 13 News that a possible suspect's home was located a block from the house hit by gunfire. According to police, shots were fired from 2125 SW Swygart toward the home at 2120 SE California.
Shortly after police surround a home on Swygart, three men were taken into custody. All were taken to LEC to be interviewed.
Police later said that two juveniles taken into custody were booked in the Juvenile Department of Corrections. One was taken in as a runaway. The other was taken in for battery of a law enforcement officer.
After investigation, police determined there was "no intent to harm" during the incident Wednesday. The gun believed to be related to the incident was seized by officers at the scene.
TPD's K9 units and KHP helicopter responded to the scene. Police told 13 News that the helicopter was key in locating suspects in the case.
Nearby, a lockdown at Highland Park High School was lifted at 9:55 a.m. according to the school's principal.
