TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Very excited and festive teams celebrated Saint Patrick's Day early and they didn't even have to get out of bed. They stayed in them.
The fun tradition that has been going on for five years now, the Topeka Bed Race, had participants rolling.
Each team brought their uniquely decorated beds out to 6th and Jackson before the parade and competed to see which bed was the fastest. It benefited Housing and Credit Counseling, Inc.
Racers and observers agree this event is one of the best Topeka Patty's Day traditions yet.
Aaron Becker competed for the second time with his team, "Whiskey Tango."
"It's a great time," he said. "Any chance we get to come together and look this silly, it's a good time."
13's Ralph Hipp was the emcee for the race.
The winner this year was FedEx, taking the trophy for two years straight. The team won $150, trophies and bragging rights.
Cash prizes were given out to the second and third-placed teams, Capital City Bank and BNSF, respectively.
The Topeka Art Guild gave out awards for the "Most Creatively Decorated Beds."
