TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)--Northeast Kansans from different generations got together Saturday to learn about their country's past.
The museum of the Kansas National Guard and the Rolling Thunder hosted Heartland Military day.
Audiences members saw the battles of World War II come to life before their eyes as reenactors, dressed up as Germans, Americans and even Canadians, went to war at Forbes Field.
Each amateur historian had his favorite part of the reenactment.
The reenactors themselves all have "day" jobs, but spend their weekends reminding others of their country's history.
David Meek is a Korean War veteran who attended Heartland Military. He wanted to show his great-grandson, Chance, the importance of military service.
Chance says he wants to follow in the footsteps of those honored on the field.
After the reenactment visitors could get an up close look at vehicles used in today's wars as well as battles of the past.
