Harvesters Provides 900 Christmas Meal Boxes
While this holiday season may be a jolly time for some, many families are struggling to pay for groceries.
Harvesters is helping 900 families by distributing food boxes donated by Reser's Fine Foods.Several donations go to agencies in Topeka. Each food kit has enough food to feed a family of six.
"We know that 1 in 8 people in this region are food insecure,"said Jessica Kejr, Harvester's Agency Service Manager.
"The types of foods we donate are many different items from potato salad to macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, several different items. We have hundreds of different items that actually come to Harvesters," said Jeff Straight, Reser's Plant Manager.
Harvesters is the area's only food bank. They also provide food and household products for soup kitchens, homeless shelters and children's homes.
