TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-People from the Topeka community are digging their hands in the dirt for a good cause.
Members from Crestview United Methodist Church and other volunteers joined the "Hands on Topeka" group to make Topeka a cleaner place.
Volunteers worked in community parks and schools throughout the city planting flowers, spreading mulch, trimming trees, building dog houses, and more.
"I think it is important to keep the city of Topeka clean," said Crestview United Methodist Church member, John Bahre.
" I like to be outside on this beautiful day and dig in the dirt," said Janelle McKinney, volunteer.
The clean up lasted from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. And afterwards, the volunteers went to Reynolds Lodge at Lake Shawnee for some ice cream.
