TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A forum Wednesday in Topeka focused on the importance of keeping kids busy outside the classroom.
The first-ever Kansas Expanded Learning and Afterschool Forum brought together educators, policy makers and others at the Kansas History Museum.
The group discussed the importance of learning opportunities before and after school, as well as on weekends and during summer. Organizers say it not only improves grades and builds workforce skills, it also lessens the risk young people will become involved in crime or other risky behaviors.
