Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) - A new campaign is shedding light on abuse.
SRS Secretary Phyllis Gillmore announced the effort Friday in a Statehouse news conference. It focuses on the prevention of neglect, abuse and exploitation of vulnerable adults, including the elderly.
Financial abuse it the most common type of elder abuse, costing it's victims close to $3 billion a year.
Studies have shown that women are twice as likely as men to be targets of financial abuse and that family member and care givers are often the perpetrators of the abuse.
