EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - A very special memorial broke ground at Emporia State University Thursday.

The Memorial to Fallen Officers will be built to remember teachers from across the US who have lost their lives while doing their jobs.

The dedication is part of National Teacher Hall of Fame week.

The monument features a framed book, and will include more than fifty names on it -- including the date and location each teacher was lost.

Dr. Gerard Brooker, a National Teacher Hall of Fame inductee spoke Thursday about the Newtown tragedy. His daughters attended Sandy Hook Elementary School several years ago.

Five more teachers will be inducted into the hall of fame in Emporia Friday.
