Grass Fire Causes Lawrence Home Evacuations

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW)-- A grass fire in west Lawrence caused some homes to be evacuated Thursday morning.

Fire crews were called to the fire near Langston Hughes Elementary around 11 a.m. according to reports from Channel 6 in Lawrence.

Twitter users across Lawrence reported seeing smoke plumes to the west of the city as officials began evacuated homes near the fire. Officials encouraged residents north of Palisdes living on Andrew John Drive, Blue Nile, Diamond Head and Coving to leave the area.

Channel 6 in Lawrence reported that the fire was contained by noon Thursday. No injuries had been immediately reported at that time.
