GRANTVILLE, Kan. (WIBW)___Gary and Ara carbono love their horses as if they were family, but after a return trip home from retrieving Ara's medicine from Leavenworth, the family noticed something wrong.
Ara noticed a wound about the width of a twig, on the side of the nearly 12 year old quarter horse. She would care for Aimee nearly all night long, but when she arrived back at this stable the next day, she noticed Aimee had passed away.
Ara said, "I called the sheriff because i didn't know what it was, and I thought, who would come here and hurt a horse."
An autopsy report revealed a gunshot wound from point blank range...
Ara's husband, Gary, said, "It was like swallowing a rock, your heart just sank to your stomach."
The Carbonno's originally were offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter that killed Aimee, but their insurance company has since matched the offer, for a total of $2,000 dollars.
