Gov. Brownback Declares April National Donate Life Month

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--Governor Sam Brownback has declared April as National Donate Life Month.

He is encouraging people to register as organ donors and make a special effort to celebrate the tremendous generosity of those who gave the gift of live through donation.

18 people die every day due to a lack of available organ transplant with a new person added to the list every 11 minutes. Nearly 2,500 people are waiting for a transplant in Midwest Transplant Network's service area of Kansas and Missouri. 117,000 people in the United States are awaiting transplant.

April was first declared as National Donate Life Month in April of 2003.
