(WIBW) - A "doggone" special little girl is the 13 News Good Kid this week.
Madelyn Lampe turned seven-years old in August. Her mom, Robin, says Madelyn heard of older kids having birthday parties where items were collected for charity, so Madelyn decided she didn't want any more toys for herself when her birthday arrived and asked her friends to bring toys and other items for the dogs and cats at Helping Hands Humane Society.
Madelyn's own dog, Happy, was adopted from the shelter last year and inspired her charity of choice.
Madelyn's friends responded in a big way, bringing toys, catnip, leashes, bowls, old rugs and towels, soaps, brushes - even cash!
Helping Hands was thrilled with the response.
Madelyn is a second grader at North Fairview Elementary School in the Seaman School District. She active in the Brownies and plays soccer.
Her teachers agree she's a "good kid," selecting her for several "Cool Character" awards for her good deeds and giving her the citizenship award four times.
Linda Conaway nominated Madelyn for the Good Kid honor.
