LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) _ The new commander at Fort Leavenworth
says he will focus on helping to build the Army of the future.
Lt. Gen. David G. Perkins, a three-star U.S. Army general,
became commander during a ceremony Tuesday at the fort.
The Kansas City Star reports that Perkins will lead the military
installation's Combined Arms Center, which includes the U.S. Army
Command and General Staff.
Perkins said during the ceremony that soldiers serving overseas
are focused on the future of the Army, and he vowed to help create
the Army of 2020.
Besides his duty in Iraq, Perkins has worked for the Joint
Chiefs of Staff and the commanding general of the 4th Infantry
Division and Fort Carson.
