Free Tax Assistance Available Through April

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- It's tax time and many people will begin the scramble to file their taxes in time, but help is ready and avaiable.

Tax Aide, a program that works with the IRS and Volunteers Income Tax Assistance (VITA) began offering help with tax preparation at the start of 2013. The program runs through April 15.

Any taxpayer, regardless of age or income, can receive free help.

Counselors can assist people in finding deductions and special credits like Food Sales Tax and Homestead Refunds.

Tax Aide will be at the following locations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

The Docking S.O.B, 915 SW Harrison, room 163
Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, 2910 Topeka Blvd., Mondays and Tuesdays
Community Action's Swygart Center, 621 SE Swygart, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
National Guard Armory, 2722 SW Topeka Blvd, Tuesdays only
East Topeka VITA, 708 SE Lime, Tuesdays only
Lowman Methodist Church, 15th & Gage, lower level, Thursdays only
First Southern Baptist Church, 1912 SW Gage Blvd, Fridays

Evening Assistance

Topeka and Shawnee county Library:
6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays
3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursdays
1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays

IBEW LU 226 Bldg.,1620 NW Gage:
6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays

Central Park Community Center, 1534 SW Clay:
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays and Saturdays
10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Taxpayers need to bring a copy of last year's tax return, social security card photo ID of all family members, W2's and all other documents that contain tax information.

Assistance in Spanish is avaiable as well.
