TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The fourth and final defendant accused in a Topeka woman's murder... has a new attorney.
Shawnee County District Court records show James Chappas was allowed to withdraw as counsel for Benjamin Anaya.
Anaya is charged with first degree murder and conspiracy in the October 2012 death of Ashley Alcala. Court records show Jonathan Phelps will now represent him.
Anaya's trial was set to begin on December 2. It's now postponed to March 31st.
Three relatives of the victim - her husband, Manuel Alcala; his mother, Manuela and Manuel's brother, Gabino - all previously entered pleas in the case.
