RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) --A Fort Riley soldier will spend 2.5 years in prison after police say they child pornography on his personal computer.

According to Riley County detectives, Specialist Jeremy Carroll, a married father of one, downloaded a slew of illegal images and videos at his home inside a Manhattan trailer park.

He was arrested in July of 2011 after officers searched his home in the Redbud Estates on Farm Bureau Road. Police say the soldier drove to Missouri when he found out the police were after him but ended up coming back and turning himself in.

"We seized several computers and hard drives, CDs and DVDs belonging to the subject. We've been doing forensic searches of these computers and have identified probably a few hundred images of child exploitation materials as well as videos involving children," RCPD Detective Richard Lewis told WIBW after Carroll’s arrest.

The investigation into Carroll’s online activity was due to the Riley County Police Department’s participation in the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, allowing detectives to track anyone who uses certain file sharing software to access, store and swap material featuring minors on their computers.

Carroll was charged with one count of the Sexual Exploitation of Children.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, he was sentenced to 31 months with the Kansas Department of Corrections in Riley County District Court. He must also register as an offender for 25 years after he gets out of prison. He had previously entered a plea of no contest to his sexual exploitation charge.

According to Fort Riley officials, Carroll was a member of the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team's rear detachment at the time of his arrest. Police say his wife and child are located out of state.
