FORT RILEY, Kan. – Victory Week kicked off Monday at Fort Riley- an annual celebration honoring soldiers both past and present.

On Monday, June 10, the 1st Infantry Division started the week's event with a four-mile Victory Run on the historic post’s Custer Hill.

Nearly 13,000 “Big Red One” Soldiers participated in the run, led by Maj. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, 1st Inf. Div. and Fort Riley commanding general. Funk took command of the 1st Inf. Div. May 22.

On June 11, the 1st Infantry Division will celebrate its 96th birthday – as well as the U.S. Army’s 238th – with a traditional cake-cutting ceremony. The celebration will take place at the division’s headquarters building at 1 p.m.

On June 12, the 1st Infantry Division will conduct its annual Victory Park Ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. outside the division’s headquarters building on Fort Riley.

Held in conjunction with the 1st Infantry Division’s Victory Week, the Victory Park Ceremony honors Soldiers who have died in combat while assigned or attached to the 1st Infantry Division. At the ceremony, the “Big Red One” will add 10 more bricks to Victory Park’s existing 541, each honoring a brave, responsible and on point Soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The ceremony provides friends and loved ones an opportunity to pay tribute to these fallen warriors.

Victory Week is held annually on Fort Riley to honor current and former members of the 1st Infantry Division, commemorate our fallen warriors and celebrate the Big Red One’s lineage and history. Victory Week will continue with various sporting events and a ceremony honoring division Soldiers who have died in the past year, as well as the presentation of the Victory Cup to the unit with the most accumulated points in the sporting events. All events are open to the public.
